It is our pleasure to have Dr. Sharon Chuang of the Taidong Christian Hospital working with us on the development of this software.

Ophthalmologist Dr. Chuang studied Pediatric Ophthalmology in the University of Indiana, and was the director of the ophthalmology department for the Chunghua Christian Hospital, and Taichung Chung-Shan Medical Hospital. She has been instrumental in the promotion of children’s eye-care in her work, with years of success in amblyopia correction. In concert with her ample experience in the particular field, we intended to develop software that will bring to the numerous children with amblyopia a more convenient, engaging, and cost effective experience for eye correction.

Statistically, in a general populated area, around 1.6 to 4% of the population are amblyopia.
Amblyopia is correctable and completely treatable and the best results show up on children between 3 and 8.
This is also known as the ideal treatment window

If there is a history of amblyopia, farsightedness, severe astigmatism or strabismus, it is imperative to have your child’s eyes checked as early as possible. For children with congenital cataract, blepharoplegia (eye sagging or other types of amblyopia related conditions, training should begin immediately after corrective surgery. Encourage amblyopic children to consistently use this software together with occlusion. It will have a tremendous effect on amblyopia correction.

Pirate theme gets the kids interested in exercises that kids would originally turn away from.

The below exercises are geared towards amblyopic correction training. If both eyes are amblyopic, then the eyes will need to be alternately occluded.

■Rotating grating

This is the most common form of amblyopia correction exercise.Grating of different thickness and spacing stimulates.Point of exercise: Increase the stimulation of the weak eye’s visual nerve, promoting development
Different types of grating intensifies the use of the visual nerve
Tracking and clicking on objects promotes eye-hand coordination
          
■Color-light training
The various colors and shades stimulate the visual nerves
Point of exercise:
Increase the stimulation of the weak eye’s visual nerve, promoting development
Tracking and clicking moving jewels of various colors helps to promote eye-hand coordination and     development of minor muscles
The changing spectrum of the background helps visual nerve development by strengthening sensitivity to all     shades
          
■Eyeball muscle exercise
Through frequent change of visual focus, the muscle groups moving the eyeball are given a workout, strengthening eyeball movement and ability to track objects. Point of exercise: Increase the stimulation of the weak eye’s visual nerve, promoting development
When tracking objects moving in a straight line, the eyeball muscles are exercised
Tracking of random objects moving at different speed helps to increase the child’s reaction time and     strengthen eye-hand coordination
          
■Hidden object recognition
To look for the hidden objects in a complex and distractive background. Point of exercise: Increase the stimulation of the weak eye’s visual nerve, promoting development

■Eye-hand coordination - MazeA maze based exercise helps to strengthen the connection between space and visual acuity, stimulating the ability to control . Point of exercise: Increase the stimulation of the weak eye’s visual nerve, promoting development
Training the child to improve his or her sense of distance and sense of direction
